What is a Unity Sand Ceremony? Similar to the tradtional Unity Candle Ceremony, the Sand Ceremony symbolizes how the bride and groom are joined together as one with their wedding. Both the bride and groom pour sand from their individual containers into one larger container that represents their new life together. For some weddings children participate by adding their sand as well.
All around the world Unity Sand Ceremonies are overtaking Unity Candle Ceremonies in term of popularity. Why? Several reasons:
First, Sand Ceremonies work better than Unity Candle Ceremonies for outdoor Garden and Gazebo Weddings because you do not have to worry about flames blowing out.
Second, with Unity Sand Ceremonies children are able to participate. This is a great way to make children feel a part of the event.
And finally, you can keep the Sand Ceremony vessel as a keepsake! Place your sand container on the mantle as a constant reminder of your wedding day.
At Cavender Castle, most of our weddings take place outdoors. And our brides elect to include the Unity Sand Ceremony for their wedding. Spencer Durham, son of Cavender Castle Wedding Planner and Owner Cyndi Durham, has written the Sand Ceremony Song to help bring the Unity Sand Ceremony to life.
Please visit Spencer's Auraria Records website www.SandCeremonySongs.com to hear samples of the song and to purchase a Sand Ceremony Song CD. The CD is a complete kit for adding music to your Unity Sand Ceremony. This includes ready to play tracks, karaoke tracks, sheet music, lyrics and a video. Spencer Durham often performs the song live during Sand Ceremonies at Cavender Castle. He also travels to perform the song at other wedding venues around the world.
